John Wesley was a small man. He stood 5' 6" tall and never weighed more
than 135 pounds. Yet he cast a long shadow, a shadow that stretches across
more than 200 years and puts a "goodly heritage" in our path today.
Wesley's purpose was "to reform the
nation, particularly the church, and to spread holiness over these lands."
While he greatly influenced the growth of education, prison reform, social
welfare, human rights, and was active in the anti-slavery movement, his
religious contribution was his greatest. Today, about 100 denominations
look to Wesley as their ecclesiastical ancestor.
